Milestone Basin
Isolated underneath the Great Western Divide, Milestone Basin is a remote and beautiful area that does not see many visitors.Access for most people is via trail from the east from the parklands of the Upper Kern. My most memorable visit here was on a stopover on a west-to-east Sierra traverse from Giant Forest to Shepherd Pass. A high and spectacular knapsack route over Midway Col(12,880 ft) provides a rugged but reasonable entry into the basin from the west. We enjoyed perfect mid-September weather and spent a wonderful layover day climbing Milestone and Midway.
