Upper Kern Basin
The magnificent Upper Kern Basin is a delight to those who love the stark beauty of the Sierra landscape near timberline. One of the best ways to visit is via one of the old routes across the Kings-Kern Divide such as Milly's Foot Pass (above), Harrison Pass (center), or Thunder Pass (southern approach below). This latter route was the site of one of the earliest recorded crossings as recorded by Clarence King. A nice loop trip from Lake Reflection to the Upper Kern can be done using some combination of these routes.
